Star Wars - with a twist

My minimalist take on the classic Star Wars characters. And the Death. Star.
Yah.

Lost yet again

Ok, so I wanted to do an actual, "real" post today, but it's just been so gosh darn busy I haven't had time. What is it about the nice weather that makes all the crazy people come out of the woodwork? I mean, seriously, people: The weather is nice, school's almost out, it's very nearly SUMMER people, don't you have something better to do than threaten each other, crash your cars into unsuspecting people, punch out your brother and call me all drunk and harass me because no one else will talk to you and the County says I have to?
Oh, you don't. Well, carry on then.

To amuse my self and help maintain what little sanity I have left, I have resorted to watching silly, mindless television the last couple nights. My favorite thing so far is that SciFi has run the entire 2.75 seasons of
Land of the Lost from 1974-1975. I recorded them all and have been watching them a couple at a time. It was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I loved the whole cheesy craptasticness of it. And it has made me smile again, so - bonus! I hope that the remake (re-imagining, re-telling, re-working, re-whatever) is half as fun. I imagine it will be, what with Will Ferrell and all.

In the meantime... stop calling me! I have blogging to do!

New Ideas, Sunday Drive and Old Lady Glasses

[First off, this picture has nothing to do with anything except I think it would be funny to see my Buster Kitten in a variety of hats...but he would claw my eyes out if I actually tried anything like this with him and then he would slink off into a corner and not speak to me for days. Well, he doesn't really talk to to me, but you know what I mean. Anyway, I've done a little series of drawings with Buster in a variety of hats. This is my Eatser Buster. He would hate this one most of all.]

So, I have decided I'm going to try getting into the glass pendant necklaces like I see on Etsy and other places online. I have noticed a lot of them are using art papers and Japanese papers, which are really lovely, but I'm hoping that I can maybe do one better by using some original art work. I've noticed florals seem to be popular. But what do you all think? What kinds of pictures/art/images do you think would be nice/fun/cute/pretty, etc (and by that I mean sell a lot)?

On a different note, the weather was great today! It was 58 degrees outside and it's hard to believe that we had 4 inches of snow last week! I am feeling much better than last week, so we took a long drive in the country. Then we came home and watched this movie, and then this movie. Phew! That was a lot of violence and action and car crashes and dead bodies (I read that "Shoot 'Em Up had a body count of 108!) and wow, what a ride! Definitely better, for that genre than the last intense action movie I watched (see this post).

Tomorrow is my 2nd day off and I am going to get the dreaded bi-focal...I already have to wear glasses most of the time, but it's gotten so that I can't use just my "regular" glasses at work because I can't see anything close. I have these in the tortoise/green and I like them ok, and I have these in dark red, but they are way too dark for my face. So hopefully I will find something I really love. We'll see!

Violence or kitties?

So, yesterday I had the day off and was home drawing on my laptop. Looking at my favorite blogs. Eating Fritos. Y'know...same ol', same ol'.

I was channel surfing and could not find a darn thing that sounded good. Until I saw that on one of the Encore channels (on Comast) they were showing 1/2 of the Grindhouse movie that came out last year: Death Car. Or something like that.
I was curious. I had read a lot about it of course, because it was hyped to death in the entertainment media. So I thought, what the hey - I don't mind a gratuitously violent movie once in a while. Or so I thought.

Holy dead bodies, Batman.

It was, hands down, the most graphically violent movie I have ever seen in my life. You know how people say something has been burned into their brain? Well, I think this actually burned part of my brain. ** shudder **

Anyway. To try and get some warm fuzzies back, I scanned a bunch of craft papers into the laptop and spent some time playing with textures. Then I used them to alter the pop art pets I made a couple days ago.

So, even though I had to go to work today, I'm a little happier because they turned out really good, I think.

So just remember, Grindhouse = beyond extremely violent. Don't say I didn't warn you!
