It's 11 PM - do you know where your blog is?

It's 11pm on Tuesday and, after feeling dopey all day, I'm now suddenly wide awake. So I'm trying to catch up on my blogging, reading and commenting. I apologize to all those who usually see me around the inner webs, but it's been a long, weird week.

First off, I had a test and presentation at work a week ago. A what? At 911? Yah, well I signed up, along with several co-workers, for a series of leadership classes. We have attended a class once a month since last September. I thought it would be a nice break once a month from answering phones and talking to crazy, pissed off people. Which it was.
The classes were taught by De Hicks, who has done other team building type classes for us over the last few years. Don't let the suit fool you, he is also this guy, and he is wicked hilarious and the classes are always fun. Except...

Except we were told at the last official class that we were going to have a test and a presentation at the final meeting.

I hate "presentations". You would think that someone who was in choir and drama classes in school, did musical theater in Germany, was in a Celtic band that played all over town, and is a blogger all over the internet would not be shy in front of people she has worked with for over 10 years...
but you would be wrong! I can pretend to be someone else and and spout 3 pages of monologue, sing, dance and whatever, but for some reason standing up and talking in front of a group makes me so nervous I almost stop breathing.

So I went with the familiar and did a presentation on why Dorothy Gale was a "leader". I used my artwork for props. (Remember these gals?)

Nervous or not, I guess it was okay. I stuttered my way through it and only lost my place, oh, a half-dozen times. I even made a pair of ruby slippers, although I bought the shoes at a local thrift store and didn't try them on first (hello, I don't keep a can of Lysol in my purse) and they are wa-a-ay too big (Hey, Value Village: FYI - a UK7 is not the same as a US7..!) I can't actually wear them, so I am bummed. I may have to make another pair....

Anyway, ruby slippers or not, I was so nervous the night before, I made a joke about trying to figure out some way to "hurt" myself so I had an excuse not to go to work.
(FYI: Tempting Fate? Not. A. Good. Idea.)
Two hours later I tripped going down the basement stairs. I managed not to do a face plant on the basement floor, but instead caught myself on the banister. (Ta da!)
Of course, I caught myself with my right hand. Which is my writing hand. Which means it is my drawing hand. Which means I did not break anything, but I did manage to do some damage to the tendons in my wrist. Which means I have not been writing or drawing or typing (much). I went to work and it was ok for a couple days; then it wasn't. I have been in a brace since Friday and tomorrow I actually have to go in for physical therapy. But like I always say, a day of painful physical therapy is better than a good day at work! (No, seriously, I say that all the time. Just ask Secret Agent Man!) And it also means, that although I type something like 82 words a minute, it has taken me almost two hours to type all this out.

Drawing is also slow, but I am working a little at a time. Hopefully I will have something new to post soon.
And Thursday I will be picking a winner for my contest. If you haven't entered yet, and would like to, you still have time to leave a comment on my Moo post! See ya Thursday!

*****************************************************

Update: Three weeks of brace and physical therapy! (At least.) Ugh.

Speaking of...

It's Sunday, which is typically a day of rest. It is, however, not the case around here. I don't know why but Sunday's lately have been awful busy at 911. Don't people have anything better to do on Sunday? Don't people know I have BLOGGING to do!? Sheesh!

Wait...what? I should be working while I'm at work? Pshaw. I'd so rather be home with Secret Agent Man.

Speaking of SAM, he's a lousy husband. I believe he is home right now being lazy and seeding the back hill, paying bills and doing laundry. What a guy! No, seriously he is awesome! He also makes me dinner when I am too tired to do it, takes me purse shopping, and tells me I'm beautiful all the time. Being Mrs. Secret Agent is a pretty good deal.

Speaking of being beautiful, however, I have decided I need to be less beautiful. About 40 lbs less beautiful. (For the record - desk jobs suck.) So SAM and I have been discussing diets and a walking regimen. I clearly need more exercise. Going out for beer and pizza apparently does not count. (Who made that rule, anyway?)

Speaking of exercise, though, we did get a Wii recently. With the intent that we would maybe do some Wii Sports or something. Alas, no. We are completely hooked on a series of Raving Rabbids games.
Oh. My. Gosh. I have not laughed so much in a long time! (Laughing is exercise, right?) For anyone not familiar with the Rabbids, you do crazy things like shoot plungers at them,

race warthogs, and dance dance your booty off! (That's my favorite part...although I checked this morning and sadly, my booty is still all there.)

(For those of you who know and love the little darlings, go here...there's an interesting post about their creation.)
Anyway, it's great fun, but so far it's not doing much to erase my beer and pizza calories.
Damn.

So, still speaking of diets, anyone got any good suggestions? I need a diet I can stick with, that doesn't include fish, brussels sprouts, garlic, cauliflower, zucchini, jelly beans, ice cream, chocolate, donuts, any kind of cupcake...oh wait...I got off track there.

Speaking of cupcakes...
...where I work we have restrooms right across the hall from our main door (I know, stay with me here...). Needless to say, we try to keep air freshener in there at all times. We have to buy our own, so we take turns. A couple days ago a new one showed up, some kind of Febreze something or other.
Now, I am leery of air "fresheners" because they are usually way too strong and give me a headache. But this one....this one.... um, it's just wrong. It smells like vanilla cupcakes.
What the hell Febreze?
I guess it's probably great for the kitchen. But, y' know, I smell a nice vanilla cupcake and hey - I want one!
Kinda disturbing in the bathroom.
I'm just sayin'.

Great, now I want cupcakes and here I am with my rabbit food lunch. It's very frustrating. Think I'll go home and shoot me some Rabbids.

A Little Randomness aka "the Stolen Meme"

I am so far behind on my reading of other people's blogs - it's redonkulous! So I am randomly going through blogs and picking random old posts and checking stuff out and while I'm at Dances With God I find this gem of a meme. It's usually one of those things that you do and then "tag" someone to do it also. Well, I'm not tagging anyone, I just thought it was fun. But hey, if you wanna, you sure can do it too!
(Thanks Pastor Sharon...by way of Reddirt Woman, who also has a lovely blog!)

1. What's your favorite article of clothing? An oversized black baggy sweater with pockets. I wear it all the time so even though it's relatively new it doesn't look like it anymore!

2. Who was the last person you hugged? The hubs.

3. What's your favorite dinner? Pizza. No- Mexican. No, wait! Italian. No...wait! Um...too many things to decide. Depends on my mood.

4. What's the last thing you bought? This bag. In red. (On sale, at least) I'm a junkie. Someone help me!

5. How's your head feeling right now? Ok. My back now...that's a whole different story...

6. What's your favorite weather? Late spring, when it's warm but not too.

7. What is your least favorite season? Winter. I'm so not a cold weather person! (S.A.M. is, but he's ca-ray-zee!)

8. What's in your purse? Oh my gosh. Everything. My wallet, emergency makeup, gum, cell phone, iPod, antacids, Tylenol, gum, old movie ticket stubs (go see Sherlock Holmes, awesome!), more gum, coffee stand cards...and I'm sure about 47 more things I've forgotten.

9. Say something to the person who tagged you. Well...since I stole this, I guess this one doesn't count!

10. What is your favorite dessert? Gobi. Oh wait, that's 2 s's, i'nt it? (Ha!) Well, I'm not much of a dessert person, but I would have to choose either Key Lime pie or pumpkin pie.

11. What did you want to become as a child? Not so much a what as a who. I seriously wanted to be Shirley Jones.

12. What do you want to be now? A full-time artist. ...sigh...

13. What is your favorite song? Oh goodness, I love all kinds of music, I don't know if I could pick just one. But some of my faves are "And Dream of Sheep" - Kate Bush; "All Will Be Well" - Gabe Dixon; "Consolation Prizes" -Phoenix; "Cobrastyle" -Teddybears; "Feel Good, Inc" -Gorillaz; "My Divided Falling" -3.

14. What is your favorite country/state? I would have to say USA. I haven't been to a lot of different states so I don't know if I would prefer one over Washington. I need to travel some more and get back to you on that.

15. If you could go anywhere in the world in the next hour, where would you go? To see my parents. Or Machu Picchu.

16. What are my most challenging goals right now? Figuring out how to make my business/art work profitable.

17. What is your five-year plan? Getting my business/art work profitable!

18. What is your favorite sport to watch? Uh...sport? What is this "sport" that you speak of? Oh, um, if I have to watch sports it would be baseball.

19. What show would you be a cast member of? Fringe. Or Sanctuary. Or CSI (the original one).

20. What is your most prized possession? Material possession? My laptop. It has all my artwork on it.

21. Name a favorite childhood memory. When I was little, maybe 3, my parents took me "ice skating" down a street next to the lake near our house. I remember them holding my hands, one on each side, as we slid down the street on our shoes, in the cold.

22. What is your favorite movie? Field of Dreams. A Walk In the Clouds. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

23. What is your favorite quote? "You can't have a light without a dark to stick it in" - Arlo Guthrie.

24. What is your favorite book? Yah...how much time do you have? Okay - Anything by Sherri Tepper. Dean Koontz's "Lightening". Stephen King's "The Stand". And about 400 others.

25. What sport would you compare your life to at this time? Mountain climbing!...but I'm gettin' there!

Lost yet again

Ok, so I wanted to do an actual, "real" post today, but it's just been so gosh darn busy I haven't had time. What is it about the nice weather that makes all the crazy people come out of the woodwork? I mean, seriously, people: The weather is nice, school's almost out, it's very nearly SUMMER people, don't you have something better to do than threaten each other, crash your cars into unsuspecting people, punch out your brother and call me all drunk and harass me because no one else will talk to you and the County says I have to?
Oh, you don't. Well, carry on then.

To amuse my self and help maintain what little sanity I have left, I have resorted to watching silly, mindless television the last couple nights. My favorite thing so far is that SciFi has run the entire 2.75 seasons of
Land of the Lost from 1974-1975. I recorded them all and have been watching them a couple at a time. It was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I loved the whole cheesy craptasticness of it. And it has made me smile again, so - bonus! I hope that the remake (re-imagining, re-telling, re-working, re-whatever) is half as fun. I imagine it will be, what with Will Ferrell and all.

In the meantime... stop calling me! I have blogging to do!

Art

So, I signed up with Illustration Friday because I thought it would "make" me be creative and draw stuff I wouldn't normally draw. Wrong. Really wrong. Usually I ignore the emails they send me because I'm in the middle of working on something else or because, for the life of me, I can't figure out how you would do an illustration for some of their topics ( "Contained?" "Flawed?" "Opinion?" Really?) Never mind that 7000 other people have no problem with it (although, to be fair, while most of the artwork is really good, sometimes it really does have NOTHING to do with the topic...)

Anyway, this week's topic is "intricate". Well, the intricate drawing I'm working on is Dorothy, from the Wizard of Oz.

What do you mean it that has nothing to do with "intricate?" Really? Huh.

Oh well, that's what I'm working on anyway. I'm also working on an intricate background in a different intricate art program (Corel Painter - most of my stuff is done in Illustrator) to use with Dorothy. Part of a series of storybook/fairytale characters I'm intricately working on.
Just because.
